The History of Harnett

Harnett County, nestled in North Carolina's Coastal Plain region, embodies a rich and diverse history that reflects the forces shaping the state and the nation. The county was carved from Cumberland County in 1855.  From its indigenous roots to the influx of Scottish settlers, from its crucial role in agriculture to its emergence as an industrial hub, the county has continuously evolved while preserving its unique heritage. Today, Harnett County stands as a thriving community, blending its rich history with modern progress, and continuing to be a center for agriculture while welcoming new opportunities for growth and prosperity.
